Bathroom Furniture

I am very fond of placing small pieces of Antique furniture in bathrooms. I think it adds an element of coziness. It also adds interest and personality to a room which we usually don't think about furnishing.

Whether it's a small table {like above} to place some towels on & a beautiful tray with lots of perfume and lotion on for your guests or a lovely old chair upholstered in a pretty fabric, I think it's a great look.

In the Gumdale house I have been working on I suggested this concept to the client and she went with it. We painted the old pieces we found for her bathrooms white and they look fantastic.

So, if you have room for a lovely little old table or chair or even an old mirror in your bathroom my advice is...go for it!

Oh and while we're on the subject of furnishing bathrooms - I also love little paintings in bathrooms too!!

Anna,
That photo is so calming. I don't know about the being big enough to fit in a table and chair into the bathroom. Our bathroom is 4.6mx 3.9m...way too big. You can have a dance in there. I would just like a little one, enough to fit a chair beside the clawfoot would be enough.

I love your idea, Anna. So often bathrooms are just sterile, utilitarian spaces and I do think furniture and small paintings can make such a difference in creating atmosphere and warming them up. Can't wait to see some of your bathroom designs!

I think its a great idea to make a bathroom more cozy Anna! However, just wondering.. how can I maintain the condition of the wood and old chairs in bathrooms- esp. in very moist and tropical countries in Asia?

Even though I've painted and varnished them..

That's really cute! I can't wait until we have bigger bathrooms to be able to try this.

Love the idea, but I don't have enought room in my bathroom - but that aside... I love hot showers etc and the steam (even with the fan on) would ruin everything in a heartbeat!

anna, i've been reading your blog for the last few months. love it! love the "absolutely beautiful things" you show. this post is so me! whenever i find a small antique something or little piece of artwork, my first thought is... which bathroom can i put it in? i recently bought an antique wooden gutter about 4 feet long for one purpose, but now it sits on the ledge of my tub with soaps, brushes, salts, shells. it too made it to the bathroom! thanks for the beautiful posts. pam

I agree the bathroom feels much more inviting with a few old touches and pictures, a must.

Oh yes, I agree furniture just makes a bathroom. I have a gorgeous little black commode that I am planning my boys bathroom around. I am on the hunt for 2 black, baroque-ish mirrors to complete the whole scheme. You've now inspired me to look for a stand similar to your picture for the other bathroom! A-M xx

I love the idea of adding a vintage piece in the bathroom, it makes it so cozy. My bathrooms are teeny and I'd have to cram it in somehow, I'll just have to gaze at this photo instead...

Anna, I love making a bath a part of the home decor with art and furniture. Even if it is only enough room for demi pieces. Oh, I have finished my newest painting, please take a look. I hope you like it!

I agree completely. I added vases and flowers to my bathrooms as well as some glass accessories and it really brings the "room" to life!

Next up, a framed print or painting.

I wish I had room for a pretty piece like this. My bathrooms are tiny!

I just love that it just adds something to the bathroom a bit of creativity to a small room, it even gives the illusion of the room been bigger.

I have just come across your blog and its just wonderful, will be coming back again thanks
